Hosseiniyah of the Qannads

Ghannadha Hosseiniyah is one of the oldest and most notable religious sites in Mashhad, dating back to the Qajar era. Originally known as the "Tekyeh of Zarkeshha," it later became popularly known as “Ghannadha” due to the involvement of local confectioners (ghannads) in its activities. Located near the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), this Hosseiniyah has long been a center for religious ceremonies, particularly during the months of Muharram and Safar. Before the Islamic Revolution, it played a pioneering role in defying the ban on religious mourning ceremonies, becoming a symbol of spiritual resistance. Today, it remains active and is registered as a historical site, drawing many mourners and pilgrims from across the country every year.
